Android 6.0 Marshmallow release to commence next week; Which Nexus devices eligible for update?

While demoing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS on the new Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X, Google reportedly confirmed that the new OS will be rolled out to select devices next week.

Technology blog Android Central confirmed that LG Nexus 5 (2013), Motorola Nexus 6, Asus Nexus 7 (2013), HTC Nexus 9 and Nexus Player will get the new v6.0 Marshmallow in a few days time.

This apparently means that the 2012 series Asus Nexus 7 and LG Nexus 4 are no longer be supported by Google.

This is understandable, considering the fact that Google's obligation of software support for Nexus devices are only two years max, but the aforementioned devices enjoyed three years of support. They actually came with v4.1 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box and since then, they have been updated to v4.4 KitKat (2013) and 5.0 Lollipop (2014).

With the announcement, flagship status of LG Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 (2012) are officially stripped off.

For the uninitiated, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is confirmed to come with native support for fingerprint sensor input, leaner and faster Chrome browser, Google Photos, Auto back-up -- from where all app's user-data (less than 25MB) will automatically be stored in Google Drive. Power saving feature has also been incorporated in the Android Marshmallow to extend battery life.
