The much awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA (Over-The-Air) update has been officially released to the Samsung's 2013 flagship phablet in select regions.

Samsung's community website, SamMobile has confirmed that Galaxy Note 3 owner in Russia have begun receive the OS update notification.

The new Android 5.0 Lollipop OS comes with build-number – 'N900XXUEBOA6' and brings in new TouchWiz UI features, refurbished interface, lock-screen notification options, enhanced battery life, performance tweaks and many more.

This is a surprise move by the company to rollout new OS to the two-year old Galaxy Note 3 instead of releasing it to the current flagship phablet model -- Galaxy Note 4.

We believe that Samsung might have come across some bugs during the test run of Galaxy Note 4 on Lollipop OS.

Same goes for Google's Affiliated Nexus devices. Some of the early adaptors complained of bugs affecting the performance of device. The search engine giant has released two stability updates – 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 -- since the official release in mid-November 2014.

How to install OTA update:

If Galaxy Note 3 owners are getting the update notifications, then select - "Yes, I'm in" option >> then, after downloading, select >> "Install now." The phone will restart automatically and the OS will be updated to the new version.

As of now, Android 5.0 Lollipop is seeding to Note 3 only in Russia. We like remind our readers that the OTA updates are released in stages, so it will take some time, probably few weeks to reach all corners of the world.

Until then users can check manually by going to Settings >> About phone >> System update.

So far Samsung has released the new Android 5.0 Lollipop to 2014 flagship devices Galaxy S5 in select regions. Later, the company is also expected to roll-out the new OS update to Galaxy Note 4 and the 2013 marquee phone - Galaxy S4 in few weeks time.

For the uninitiated, The Google's new Android v5.0 Lollipop OS comes with completely re-furbished new design language Material design bringing inter-active user-interface, lots of animation graphics, replacement of Dalvik with ART as its default runtime will bring improvement in performance and battery-life enhancements.
