Android v4.4.2 KitKat Now Seeding to Sony Xperia T2 Ultra; Brings PlayStation 4 Animation, Performance Enhancements and MoreSony Press Kit

Sony's mobile arm has released the Android KitKat update to the company's mid-range phablet Xperia T2 Ultra.

The new update (build number: 19.1.C.0.116) has been released to both the single and dual-SIM versions of Xperia T2 Ultra globally, including India via OTA (Over-The-Air). It can also be downloaded manually from the computer to the smartphone (via PC companion suite).

To check for the update on the smartphone- Go to Settings >> About phone >> Build number / version.

Xperia T2 Ultra made its debut early this year (January) with Android v4.3 Jelly Bean, now the new update will bring in new features like updated camera application, improved email apps, Sony PlayStation 4 launch animation, live-wallpapers, re-furbished Sony native apps, entertainment apps- WALKMAN, Album and Movies, new custom UI – 'Xperia Themes', also brings compatibility to SmartBand SWR10 and Lifelog app (fitness band), and the regular stability, performance and battery improvements.

That's not all, Sony has promised that the new wave of KitKat update roll out will include Xperia E1 and Xperia M2 (both single & dual-SIM models), but the company did not mention any specific timeline of the firmware release.

Key Features of Android 4.4 KitKat OS Update:

Location Menu: This integrated location menu enables users to easily activate the GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, while simultaneously keeping a tab on the battery consumption by the location service based apps.

Enhanced Google Mobile Service (GMS) Apps: This application helps users to automatically back-up photos and video clips. He/she also can create, view, share and rename Google Docs and files.

Improved Caller-ID: If a user receives a call from an unknown number, the phone will look for matches on the Internet with local listings via Google Maps.

Priority Contacts: The new OS empowers the smartphone to automatically prioritize the contact list for easy access, based on the frequency of the peoples' contacts to which users talk.

Immersive Display: To enhance the entertainment factor, the new OS comes with an immersive mode, where the status bar and navigation buttons disappear into the background while you play music, games and read e-books. Users can just swipe the edge of the screen to bring back the utility buttons.

Enhanced Message Grouping: Google has brought in some improvements to the new Hangouts app; now, users can find all their text SMSs and MMSs, audio and video call details all in one place. He/she can also share location and send animated GIFs.

Emoji Characters:  Initially, users had to install third party app to use colorful characters in their SMS. Now, with KitKat update, the keypad comes pre-loaded with native Japanese Emoji emotion icons.
