One of the most popular singing reality competitions, "American Idol", which has been running for 14 seasons, will be cancelled after the upcoming Season XV, announced FOX. The show, which had provided the launching pad for many Billboard chart-toppers like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Lambert, and Jordin Sparks, would conclude its run in 2016.

Simon Cowell, who has been a long-standing presence in the "American Idol" judge panel, tweeted about the announcement, "Looking back at my time on American Idol we had a great time. We found great artists. Had fun. And to America. Thank you. It was a blast."

Meanwhile, host Ryan Seacrest said that although "American Idol" Season XV will be highly emotional, it will also be the unforgettable. "Next season will be emotional yes, but next season will be unforgettable i can't wait #idol," tweeted the radio and television personality.

However, Idol judges Jennifer Lopez and Harry Corrick, Jr. are yet to make any comments on social media in this connection.

Although Keith Urban did not comment on the "American Idol" cancellation announcement, he did retweet a picture of him with the other judges and host Seacrest. The caption of the picture stated that the new season, which will also be the final one, will start airing on FOX from January 2016.

Meanwhile, watch out for the jam-packed "American Idol" XIV finale episodes on 12 and 13 May, at 8.00 pm (EST) on FOX.
