Bollywood actresses Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Janhvi Kapoor were honoured by the Women in Film and Television (WIFT) India on September 8, 2018. The inaugural WIFT India award function took place in Washington, DC, USA, alongside the South Asian Film Festival (SAFF) 2018. Director Zoya Akhtar was also honoured by the organisation that is a collective of women in showbiz and a part of WIFT International.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was honoured with the Meryl Streep Award for Excellence for her contribution to cinema, for "distinction in her craft and for expanding the role of women within the entertainment industry", according to WIFT India.
The former Miss World made her film debut with a Tamil film and went on to act in blockbuster Bollywood commercial films as also some meaningful cinema. She has also done crossover films and starred in Hollywood in The Pink Panther 2 and in Gurinder Chadha's Bride and Prejudice. Aishwarya was recently seen in the film Fanney Khan.
At the WIFT India awards ceremony, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wore a mermaid style black and golden dress that flaunted her figure. The actress and mom was accompanied by her daughter Aaradhya Bachchan and her mother at the function. Aishwarya shared pictures from the event on her Instagram. A video of the event is also viral on the social networking site.
Janvhi Kapoor who made her Bollywood debut in 2018 with Dhadak and was appreciated for her performance by audiences and critics, received the award for best debut - the WIFT Emerald award. Janhvi Kapoor looked smashing in a pink and silver off-shoulder gown and high heels at the function, as she posed with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aaradhya Bachchan and Zoya Akhtar.
Director and writer Zoya Akhtar who has made interesting films like Luck By Chance, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Dil Dhadakne Do, was honoured with The Wyler Award by WIFT India.
Catherine Hand received the WIFT India Producer of the Year award for the film adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's celebrated novel A Wrinkle in Time by Ava DuVernay.
