The members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) have called for a ban on the movie claiming it will affect and hurt religious sentiments of a certain section of the society..

In a statement given to the commissioner of police on Monday, the members of the organisation allege that they have issue with the song "Iraniyan Nadagam", which they claim belittles the conversation between Prahalad and Hiranyakashipu and may hurt religious sentiments.

"The lyrics of the song will upset followers of Lord Vishnu. It belittles the conversation between Prahalad and Hiranyakashipu. Hence, we demand a ban on the film," said K.L Sathiyamoorthy, member of VHP.

Meanwhile, "Uthama Villain" also ran into rough weather with plagiarism charges when the first look poster of the movie was released. Though many claimed that the poster had a striking similarity to a photograph taken by French photographer Eric Lafforgue, Kamal slammed the rumours and said that the look is truly inspired by the arts of "Theyyam".

Kamal has also had tiffs with religious organisations during the release of his films "Vishwaroopam" and "Virumaandi". "Vihswaroopam" was probably the most controversial movie of Kamla Haasan's career. Initially, the Hindu Makkal Katchi party protested against the movie asking for the change of title from Sanskrit to Tamil. Later, several Muslim groups demanded a ban on the movie, claiming that the Kamal Haasan film showed the religion and its followers in bad light.

Similarly, the movie "Virumaandi" which was launched as "Sandiyar" in 2004, changed the title after Puthiya Thamizhagam leader K Krishnaswamy protested citing religious reasons.

Meanwhile, it would be interesting to see how Tamil cinema industry extends support to Kamal Haasan for his upcoming movie. Recently, the various associations in the industry had stood strongly with Karthi's "Komban" when the film faced troubles in releasing the movie following threats by religious groups.
