Filmmaker Karan Johar has breathed a sigh of relief after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured him of a smooth release for his film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (ADHM) in the state.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) had vowed to vandalise cinema halls that screen Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (ADHM) featuring Pakistan actor Fawad Khan. Following its protests, Mukesh Bhatt, the president of the Film and Television Producers Guild, met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday to seek his support for its smooth release in the state.

Rajnath Singh assured Mukesh Bhatt that he would not allow anyone to disturb the law and order situation in the country. He told that he would ask the chief ministers of all the states to make sure a smooth release for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Hours after the Union Home Minister's assurance, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has got into action and made an announcement about it.

The chief minister of Maharashtra says that strict action will be taken against people, who engage in unlawful activities. "The state government would like to reaffirm that the government will not allow anyone to disturb law and order and stern action will be taken. Democratic protest is fine but unlawful activity will not be tolerated," PTI quoted Devendra Fadnavis' statement.

MNS has been fighting against the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, ever since the September 18 Uri terror attack, which killed 19 soldiers from Indian Army. First the activists of MNS sat on a dharna in front of Karan Johar's office in Mumbai. Later, they also held protests in the city and threatened to stall its release.

MNS workers held a protest and raised slogans outside Metro Cinema in south Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon. They later submitted a memorandum to the manager of the cinema hall not to screen Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Police took strict action by arresting 12 activists and sending them to judicial custody till November 4.
