Silambarasan-starrer Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada has got a flying start at the Chennai box office. The movie has made a good collection in the capital city of Tamil Nadu, but failed to break the opening-day records of Rajinikanth's Kabali and Vijay's Theri.

According to trade reports, Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada had about 150 shows on the opening day in the city, from which it earned Rs 65 lakh at the Chennai box office. Although the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 had an impact on the business, the film managed to get a good response due to the star power of Simbu, say industry insiders.

However, Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada failed to beat the records of Vijay's Theri (Rs 1.05 crore) and Rajinikanth's Kabali (Rs 1.03 crore). Its makers would still be thanking their stars, since the central government's recent decision to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes has adversely affected every business and citizen. Film industry has felt an impact too, and people are refraining from visiting theatres, opting instead to save the smaller denominations of currency that they have. As a result, booking counters in theatres are witnessing a lull in footfall.

In urban centres, people have booked tickets through online channels. And that's probably why Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada did well in Chennai on the first day.

Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada is expected to do decent business in the next two days as well. The movie is enjoying good word-of-mouth publicity and this factor is believed to help it perform well at collection centres, say trade experts.

Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada stars Simbu and Manjima Mohan. The romantic action entertainer has been directed by Gautham Menon.
