Aamir Khan opens up about joining politics and being in Rajya Sabha

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has opened up about joining politics. Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the Satyamev Jayate Water Cup 2018 in Pune on Sunday, August 12, Aamir Khan replied to a question whether he would accept a Rajya Sabha nomination.

"We are currently doing a lot of work and I think to do that work, there is no need to enter into politics," said Aamir Khan, in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The CM and the state government has supported Aamir Khan, his wife Kiran Rao and their Paani Foundation for their water conservation efforts since the past three years in the talukas of Maharashtra.

Many Bollywood stars have in the past taken to politics and several have been Rajya Sabha members. Among the southern actors, superstars Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth have recently started their own political party. The south has a history of actors doing well in politics, whether male or female.

On politics and the responsibility of celebrities towards society, Aamir Khan said, "I am working in the creative field, and people in this field have a major responsibility towards nation building and making the social fabric of the society strong." But Aamir Khan clearly does not want to join politics.

On Sunday, Aamir Khan had posted a series of tweets about the conclusion of the Satyamev Jayete Water Cup 2018.

He said in his first tweet, "Thank you all for coming together for water, and giving all of us at @paanifoundation so much confidence and inspiration to carry on this beautiful journey. @CMOMaharashtra @AjitPawarSpeaks @RamShindeMLA @AshokChavanINC @RVikhePatil @RajThackeray."

Aamir Khan posted a picture of the winners of the Satyamev Jayate Water Cup 2018, saying, "Congratulations to Takewadi from Maan Taluka for winning the 1st prize in the SMJ Water Cup. Your work is truly inspirational! And congratulations to all the participating villages across Maharashtra... in the Water Cup everybody wins against drought." The winners of Takewadi Maan Taluka won Rs 75 lakh as the prize.

Aamir Khan concluded in his third tweet, "And none of this would have been possible without our wonderful team! A big thank you to all our trainers, Taluka coordinators, district and zonal teams, production teams, our directors, our extremely supportive funders...and the favourite member of our team Shri @Dev_Fadnavis".

We agree. Aamir Khan and his team are doing a lot of good work without joining politics.
