Three policemen wanted in a 32-year-old case of suspected fake encounter of the brother of a former legislator of Uttar Pradesh have reportedly been arrested.

PTI on Saturday reported quoting police sources that the three policemen -- Malkhan Singh, Phool Chand and Manzoor Ahmed -- were arrested from their houses in Bhadohi on Friday.

The arrests came about a week after the Allahabad High Court questioned the intentions of state police following a petition filed by the victim's family members.

While three people were arrested, two others got bail from the court. Three of the 20 accused policemen have died and the efforts were on to arrest the others, SP AK Rai told PTI.

Former MLA Udaybhan Singh's brother Devendra Pratap Singh was killed in an alleged fake encounter in 1982. A case of murder was filed against 20 policemen, including two inspectors and as many sub-inspectors, five years later.

Udaybhan Singh, who was elected an MLA from Auraiya constituency on BSP ticket in 2002, is presently serving life sentence in a murder case.
