German carmaker Volkswagen unveiled the sixth generation Polo hatchback on Friday, June 16 at an event in Berlin. The new Polo looks bigger than the outgoing model and is more dynamic with enhanced safety features.

The new Polo, which received distinctive lines that run through the body, hosts numbers of features and will be offered in six trims viz the existing Trendline, Comfortline and Highline along with the newly introduced Beats edition, R-line and top-of-the-line GTI. Polo GTI also made a brief appearance at the event in Germany. However, the key details of the new Polo GTI will be revealed later in the year.

Even the base version of the new Polo, the Trendline, has standard features such as LED daytime running lights with coming-home and leaving-home functions, a speed limiter and the Front Assist area monitoring system with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring. Other features include Blind Spot Detection lane change system with Rear Traffic Alert, semi-automated Park Assist system and Keyless Access locking and engine starting system.

The hatchback features Active Info Display and infotainment systems with display diagonals ranging from 6.5 to 8.0 inches. The new Polo is offered in a total of 14 colours and twelve wheels (14- to 18-inch, some painted in contrasting colour), dashpads in a multitude of decors and eleven different seat cover options. The powertrain includes a choice of four petrol and two diesel engines and a newly developed 1.0 TGI with an output of 88.5hp.

There is no word on the arrival of the new Polo in India yet. The new Polo will go on sale in Europe later this year.
