Swedish car-maker Volvo has preponed the launch of its highly anticipated 2015 Volvo XC90 in India to May, to cash in on the rising demand for the SUVs in the market.

Volvo, which launched the petrol variant of its V40 Cross Country in India recently, has confirmed that the new XC90 will hit the roads in May. Previously, it was reported that the car would come to the Indian shores in the second half of the year.

Based on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), Volvo XC90 will be brought to India as a completely built-up unit (CBU) and will be available in two trims - Momentums and Inscription.

While the Momentums variant of XC90 will get features like panoramic sunroof, electrically operated boot-lid, rear camera, hill decent control, keyless entry, tyre pressure monitor, electrically adjustable driver seat and 12.3-inch screen, the top-of-the-line variant Inscription will get additional features like heads-up display, Nappa leather seats and 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins music system

XC90, the model that is being billed as the world's safest SUV measures 4,950mm in length, 1,923mm in width and 1,776mm in height will rival Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Mercedes GL Class in India.

Under the hood, the Volvo XC90 will be getting power from 1,969cc in-line four cylinders, twin turbo-charged diesel engine that can comfortably churn out a power of 225bhp at 4,250rpm and a peak torque of 470 Nm. The transmission will be taken care by 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The bookings for the model are expected to commence soon in India and when launched XC90 is likely to fall in the price range of ₹80-85 lakh.
