God of War 3 Remastered

If there ever was one good reason to buy a PlayStation, it has to be down to the immense popularity of Sony's proprietary title God of War. God of War may not be that good a history lesson on Greek mythology (Age of Mythology was an exception), but it still adds immense gameplay and replay value.

Now, as years have gone by, it seems like Kratos has grown some 10 years with us. And to mark this quite the historic feat, Sony has announced God of War 3 Remastered for PlayStation 4, which is set for launch in July.

Sony Santa Monica's famed gore action adventure launched on PS3 back in March 2010. Now, God of War 3 Remastered looks to mark series protagonist Kratos' first appearance on PS4, while also celebrating 10 years of God of War.

"Creating an original game is really hard; it takes a combination of creativity, tenacity, guts, skill, and let's be honest here, no small amount of total lunacy to imagine and see to the finish an entirely new world," the official blogpost states.

"So making an original game that is successful, well, that is just lightning in a bottle, my friends. I believe that David Jaffe did just that when he created and directed the first God of War game."

Santa Monica's Cory Barlog also states that the story he compiled for God of War 2 "set the stage for an epic finish to the trilogy Dave and I had always imagined." After all, it was an all-out war between the Gods, Titans and everyone's favourite "angst-ridden" Spartan warrior.

Now the planned PS4 remaster for the game is expected to open up an entirely new avenue for noobs and series newcomers by offering "a retina popping thrill ride" with the introduction of 1080p gameplay, smooth combat, massive weapons, and mega bosses that we are so used to in the GoW series.

The blog adds that there's also the new photo mode "so you can share those most tender of God of War moments, like stabbing a Minotaur in the frickin face, with your friends and loved ones."

The PS4 refresh, as mentioned earlier, arrives on 15 July in the US, and 17 July in the UK, and although it doesn't really justify the delay for the upcoming Uncharted 4, it still is a good deal to hang on to before Nathan Drake daring adventures start making their mark in 2016. Here's the announcement trailer.

SPOILER ALERT: In case you don't remember the story involved in God of War 3 (which is highly unlikely in the first place), you control former God of War, Kratos, after his betrayal at the hands of his father Zeus, King of the Olympian Gods.

Steered by the spirit of Athena, Kratos fights monsters, gods, and Titans in a search for Pandora, without whom he cannot open Pandora's Box, go on to defeat Zeus, and eventually end the supremacy of the Olympian Gods.
