When we think of office politics, the implication is usually malicious. We think of power struggles, allegiances, back-stabbing and malicious gossip. Some people succeed on it, but most people find it utterly wretched.

While majority of employees feel office politics hurt productivity, a 2012 survey by Robert Half International shows 56% of workers feel politicking is necessary to get ahead in their career.

However, destructive office politics can demoralize an organization, hamper productivity, and decrease company revenue.
