This Labour Day weekend, instead of doing the same old back-to-school shopping and taking out warm clothes out of storage, here is a list of 10 super fun activities that you must try.

1. Start the Celebration by Visiting Labour Day Parade

The New York City Labour Day Parade, also known as West Indian-American Day Carnival, takes place in Brooklyn and features marchers in elaborate costumes dancing and singing to the sounds of Reggae and Calypso. Similarly, a parade will go down Grant Street in Pittsburgh where 85,000 marchers will be grouped into 191 units.

2. Row a Kayak

With annoyingly rising temperature, nothing can be more soothing than heading to North Shore under the Clemente Bridge to rent and paddle a Kayak across the city of Pittsburgh. In Washington, DC, Thompson Boat Center and Key Bridge Boathouse offer rentals. The Washington Sailing Marina also gives lessons to row a boat.

3. Groove to Music

Dance to the music at the annual DC Blues Festival. Staged at the Carter Barron Amphitheatre, the festival is more than two decades old and features well-known artists and workshops. In Chicago, you can spend an awesome time at Remix Chicago and Chicago Jazz Festival.

4. Bike Riding

Parks in Pittsburgh namely Frick, Highland, Riverview and Schenley have trail system with both walking trails and bike trails. It will be a pleasure to ride a bike in these parks as the trails are covered with lush canopies of trees. There are also a number of eateries within walking distance. In New York, you can ride along the Hudson River, the paths through Central Park and across the Brooklyn Bridge.

5. Have a Hearty Meal

In Washington, DC, you can eat your way through the weekend with brunch, the unofficial meal of summertime. Longer days mean more time for lingering over your pancakes (and mimosas). Many local restaurants offer special Monday brunches in honour of the final long weekend of the summer. At the New York Carnival, there are tasty ethnic food and drinks available. Favourites include jerk chicken, fried flying fish, rice and beans, and johnny cakes.

6. Visit the Local Fair

There are a number of county fairs in the outskirts of Pittsburgh like the Indiana County Fair, The Great Stoneboro Fair, The Cambria County Fair and the Big Knob Grange Fair. You can visit these fairs with the family and friends. In Chicago, you can visit Bristol Renaissance Faire to experience knights and wizards.

7. Splash into Water

Visit the water feature at PPG Place, fountains at Gateway Center, large water walls at Point Park University and Heinz Hall, or the large water structure at Katz Plaza to get some summer splash and enjoy the pleasure of getting wet. Many of DC's hotels also offer outdoor pools, such as the swanky Donovan House and The Rooftop at The Embassy Row or the family-friendly Holiday Inn Central.

8. Sightseeing

You can find a place to relax and enjoy in Central Park, New York. Find a fantastic view of the park and the skyline from Belvedere Castle atop Vista Rock, walk from Cherry Hill to the Ramble on Bow Bridge, or sit with a good book or a pair of headphones in the Conservatory Garden.

9. Be the Bookworm

While in Washington, release your inner bookworm at the Library of Congress National Book Festival, taking place at the Walter E Washington Convention Center. Authors, poets and illustrators will be on hand for book signings and photos, while kids can marvel at the storybook characters on hand, as well as a number of fun, educational activities.

10. Spend Time with Family and Friends

Labor Day weekend is a great time to spend some quality moments with your dear ones. In all the hustle and bustle of daily routine, rarely we get opportunity to squeeze time for our loved ones. Utilise the weekend to its fullest extent and make sure wherever you go, you accompany it with your people.
