Chennai, June 09 (ANI): Zoo authorities in Chennai made special arrangements for animals to protect them from scorching heat. In an effort to provide cool shelters for birds, about 20 to 25 cages of pheasants, parakeets and lovebirds are covered with jute sacks and water is sprayed on it thrice in a day. The initiatives taken by the local authorities and the state government to protect the animals and birds in the zoo from heat strokes have been welcomed by all. Elephant calves are provided a large enclosure for moving around and mud wallowing. They also enjoy shower between 3 and 4 PM daily. Visitors are permitted to see the exclusive shower. The white tigers have been provided with wooden shelters, which have a lot of shade, providing additional cooling effect to them.
