YU Televentures is intensifying the competition in the budget smartphone space with its newly-released ultra-affordable handset. In a special event in New Delhi on Tuesday, YU unveiled YUNIQUE 4G in order to attract the young Indian crowd, who love to tweak their phones with extreme customizations without drilling a deep hole in their pockets. Priced at Rs. 4,999, the all-new YUNIQUE smartphone is touted as the world's cheapest 4G LTE smartphone with HD screen.

As the event unfolded, the interesting specifications of the handset were revealed. To begin with, YUNIQUE 4G sports a 4.7-inch HD display with 1280x720 pixels, 312ppi, Gorilla Glass 3 protection and Full Lamination technology to bring better readability and sharper images. Taking cues from the company's elegant styling, YUNIQUE features a symmetrical design with Saturn rings and 3 element keys.

On the camera front, YU's new phone packs an 8-megapixel rear-facing shooter with LED flash, f/2.0 aperture lens and Full HD recording. There's a front camera in the handset, which packs a 2-megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture to cater your needs for selfies.

But YU was widely expected to launch a high-end YU smartphone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset and 4GB RAM. But the event concluded without any news on the leaked mystery.

Under the hood, YUNIQUE is powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, Adreno 306 GPU for graphics, 1GB RAM and 8GB expandable memory up to 32GB. The light-weight handset, which weighs just 28grams, packs a 2,000mAh battery that promises to deliver up to 7 hours of talk time.

Interestingly, YU powers the YUNIQUE smartphone with Google's latest stock Android 5.1 Lollipop OS out of the box. There's no need to be disappointed if you were expecting Cyanogen OS on YUNIQUE as it supports Cyanogen OS 12.1 FOTA download.

YU sounded pretty confident with YUNIQUE smartphone as it aims to sell half a million devices by Diwali. It is worth noting that the new budget smartphone will be available only once a week in a flash sale exclusively conducted by Snapdeal. The first flash sale is scheduled to happen on Tuesday, 15 September at 12 noon. Registrations remain mandatory to participate in the sale and already open on Snapdeal.

Speaking at the launch event, YU Founder Rahul Sharma said, "India is at the tipping point of digital revolution and we expect 4G technology to push internet usage to an unprecedented level. Consumer demand is constantly shifting towards devices offering multi-tasking capabilities, 24x7 data connectivity with increased video consumption and real-time mobility solutions. However to boost adoption, 3 key things including price, product and reach are important. I feel that with YUNIQUE being available at 4,999 through a partner like Snapdeal that has the farthest reach, we have a compelling preposition to delight the consumer."

YU boasted the launch of YUNIQUE also calls for better offline support in different parts of the country. The company said the new budget device can be serviced across 825+ service centers spread across more than 600 cities.

With such an extensive reach, YU is strongly aiming at disrupting the budget market space, which comprises of handsets such as Xiaomi Redmi 2, Huawei Honor Holly, Moto E (Gen 2) and Micromax Canvas Spark.

Registrations for the YUNIQUE flash sale on Snapdeal will close next Monday. If you are interested in the device, be sure to register using your email address and login on 15 September at 12pm to purchase the handset.

To further sweeten the deal, YU is also bundling the YUNIQUE smartphone with special double data offer for Airtel customers, even on 4G network.
