Xiaomi is expanding its product portfolio with a new device that will bring the niche 3D printing technology to the masses. GizmoChina spotted photos of a 3D printer with Xiaomi's logo on it, which shows a blender-like device with capability of printing objects.

Xiaomi hasn't commented on the existence of the new Mi 3D printer, but the images of the device show a working prototype. By the looks of it, the 3D printer looks affordable and could easily convince the end consumers to purchase one for their daily needs.

Xiaomi 3D printer is made of plastic and has metal shafts inside to print objects as per consumers' desire. The frosted glass covering on the outside has the company's "Mi" moniker on it and a small opening at the bottom will allow consumers to collect the final product.

The technical details on how the 3D printer works are still scanty. But the idea of making 3D printing affordable would mean paving a new way for other tech companies to follow.

3D printing is a fairly new technology in the market and its expensive printers didn't really kick off to a good start. Instead of owning an overpriced 3D printer, consumers have an option to order them instead. But that could change with Xiaomi's 3D printer.

Given the company's history of disrupting any product category, Xiaomi is expected to price its 3D printer effectively. Since no other tech companies have forayed into this category, the Chinese smartphone maker will have a head start.

Xiaomi has already explored some new and unique product categories recently. The company offers a wide range of products, such as electric kettle, hoverboard, windows laptops, air purifiers, air masks, robot vacuum cleaners, smartwatches, smartphones, tablets and more. Add 3D printer to that list, and Xiaomi will probably be one of the most diverse tech companies out there.
