Under the hashtag #PrimeIsComing, Xiaomi has been teasing the launch of a new smartphone in India. The Chinese smartphone maker finally pulled the wraps off the Redmi Note Prime, Xiaomi's second smartphone made in India, which challenges the affordable smartphone segment in the country.

The timing of the launch comes a day sooner than anticipated, as Xiaomi had said on its Christmas sale website that a secret new product will release on 15 December. Nevertheless, Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime comes at an ideal time for holiday shopping.

Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime will be available exclusively on Amazon India starting 10am, Tuesday. There is a countdown on Xiaomi's Christmas promotion website to notify interested buyers about the sale. At Rs. 8,499, Redmi Note Prime is a worthy competitor in the sub-Rs. 10,000 price range and is bound to get a lot of attention.

Moving on to the technical aspect of the Redmi Note Prime, the handset features a 5.5-inch HD IPS display, 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with f/2.2 aperture, 28mm wide angle lens and LED flash. The Redmi Note Prime sports a 5-megapixel front snapper for selfies.

Under the hood, it is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC, Adreno 306 GPU for graphics, 2GB RAM and 16GB expandable storage. There is an impressive 3,100mAh battery that runs the show. Like other Xiaomi smartphones, Redmi Note Prime also features Android Lollipop based MIUI 7.
