In its maiden Redmi Note 2 flash sale in China on 16 August, Xiaomi reportedly sold a record 8 lakh units in just 12 hours, giving rise to hopes that a similar response will be seen in the next flash sale scheduled for 24 August.

Will Xiaomi Repeat Similar Success of Redmi Note 2 sale in India?

The company has confirmed that on 19 August, it will launch the new MIUI 7 in India at an event that will be held in New Delhi. The company could also launch its Redmi Note 2 during the event.

But some online reports suggest that Xiaomi, in order to circumvent the ban on MediaTek-based original Redmi Note 2 models, will incorporate Qualcomm's Snapdragon 615 Octa-core (seen in the Mi 4i model), in the India-bound device.

In December 2014, Xiaomi was banned from selling MediaTek-powered first generation Redmi Note, as it was found to have infringed Ericsson's Standard, Essential Patents (SEPs), which are subject to FRAND (Fair, Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory) terms.

The tweak in the Redmi Note 2's SoC (System on Chip), might push the price beyond Rs 10,000 and end up in giving advantage to rivals such as Lenovo, Motorola and Micromax's YU who sell similar budget phablets for a lesser price.

If Xiaomi does make changes in the CPU of the Redmi Note 2 in India, price escalation may discourage price-sensitive Indian consumers and could force them to look for more affordable phablets.

But there is a possibility that Xiaomi may accept to pay royalty to Ericsson and get automatic permission to sell the Redmi Note 2 with MediaTek's Helio X10 SoC in India.
