If you are in India, the decision to buy a smartphone can be really tricky. With plenty of options in the budget, mid-range and flagship categories, buyers can easily be confused.

In the budget smartphone space, the competition is intense. Smartphone makers are leaving no stone unturned in offering the best specs at the lowest price possible. In the attempt to win over consumers, Xiaomi and Motorola launched new budget smartphones priced below Rs. 6,000.

With such low price tag, both smartphones strike an appeal to the budget shoppers or those who are switching from feature to 4G-compatible smartphones. Moto C and Xiaomi Redmi 4A share the same price tag of Rs. 5,999, but have slight variations in terms of specs and features.

We are going to take a look at the features of both phones to see which one is worth purchasing.

Display and Design

Lenovo's Moto C features a 5-inch FWVGA display with 480x854 pixels with a textured cover in the back. The handset looks quite basic but aligns with the affordable price tag. Xiaomi Redmi 4A, on the other hand, sports a 5-inch display with higher 720p HD resolution screen and has a polycarbonate unibody with a smooth matte finish.

Clearly, Redmi 4A is a winner with its premium look and brighter display.

Camera

Xiaomi Redmi 4A sports a 13MP rear-facing snapper with LED flash and a 5MP front snapper takes care of selfies. It is quite an impressive setup for the price it comes in. Especially when compared to Moto C, which has a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front snapper.

Yet another victory for Xiaomi Redmi 4A over Moto C.

Performance

Both phones have different configurations. Xiaomi Redmi 4A is powered by a Snapdragon 425 chipset, which is paired with 2GB RAM and has 16GB onboard storage with the option to expand up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

Moto C is powered by a 1.1GHz MediaTek quad-core chipset, paired with 1GB RAM and 16GB storage expandable up to 32GB.

Once again, Redmi 4A turns out to be a better choice for Rs. 5,999.

Battery and software

Xiaomi Redmi 4A sports a 3,120mAh battery and runs Android-based MIUI 8 software. Moto C has a smaller 2,350mAh battery and runs Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. Given the low-end specs of Moto C, the battery should do just fine, but Xiaomi has a bigger battery to power its improved specs.

Both phones have dual SIM card and 4G VoLTE support.

Verdict

We haven't reviewed either of the phones yet, but the specs comparison shows that Xiaomi Redmi 4A has much better features as compared to the Moto C. Since both phones retail at the same price, the Redmi 4A serves as a better choice. But it can be quite a challenge to grab Redmi 4A, as it is available in limited quantities exclusively on Amazon India. Moto C, however, can be bought from retail stores across more than 100 cities.
