Xiaomi has been quite active lately in launching new devices and software updates. More than two months after releasing the MIUI 7 OS globally, Xiaomi started rolling out MIUI 7.1 to its users around the world. The new software is being dispatched to all eligible devices over the air, but users can also get it instantly by downloading and installing the available ROM packages.

Before updating, users must ensure their devices are eligible. According to Xiaomi, the Mi phones eligible for the MIUI 7.1 global stable build upgrade include Xiaomi Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi Note, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 2, Redmi Prime, Redmi 1S, Redmi Note Prime, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 3G and Mi Pad. These devices will receive OTA updates through their Updater app.

In short, MIUI 7.1 brings a series of changes, including new features and bug fixes, across the board. Xiaomi has focused more on security by adding private folders within File Explorer, moving files into the private folder and also adding a File Explorer shortcut to the home screen. MIUI 7.1 also brings a new data saver function that helps reduce data consumption, and introduces Mi Drop, which helps in transfer of files between phones.

Xiaomi has also noted that MIUI 7.1 optimises battery settings, such as limiting the "Battery Low" popup from appearing while getting an incoming call.
