Xiaomi vice president Hugo Barra, while launching the new Redmi Note 3 phone in New Delhi, confirmed that the company will release flagship Mi 5 in India in April.
Now, the company's president (and co-founder), Bin Lin, in an interview with The Economic Times has revealed that the Mi 5 will be priced between Rs 20,000 and Rs 27,000.
However, there is no word on whether the company will be releasing all the three Mi 5 variants in India.
In China, high-end model Mi 5 Pro is priced ¥2699 (around $413/€376/Rs 28,307), whereas the 3GB+32GB and 3GB+64GB models cost ¥1999 (around $306/€279/Rs 20,965) and ¥2299 ($351/€320/Rs 24,111), respectively.
Xiaomi received an overwhelming response in China wherein it sold a record 4 million units within minutes in the first flash sale on March 1.
With a sub-Rs 27,000 price-tag, Xiaomi Mi5 is the cheapest smartphone in the market to house the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 series CPU, which is touted to be the most powerful SoC (System-on-Chip). [Checkout the official AnTuTu performance benchmarking score, HERE]
Samsung's Galaxy S7 series, which comes with the same processor, costs more than Rs 48, 900 in India. We won't be surprised if the Xiaomi Mi 5 receives same response from the Indian public as well.
