Xiaomi has finally launched the Redmi Note Smartphone series in India. Though the Mi brand announced the device in India at the beginning of the year, Xiaomi Redmi Note wasn't available for purchase for some unknown reason.

The Redmi Note Smartphone went on sale in Indonesia on 13 November and in an exclusive press meet Xiaomi unveiled it in India on Monday.

The Mi brand held a contest on its India Facebook fan page and offered winners a Redmi Note device. Xiaomi conducted similar contests before unveiling Mi3 and Redmi 1s too.

The Redmi Note will be available via Flipkart through their flash sale strategy from Monday onwards.

The company has stopped selling Xiaomi Mi 3 in India but the Redmi 1s is still on offer via their exclusive online seller Flipkart. Users need to pre-register for purchasing the device. And on every Tuesday of the week, a sale is held on first-come-first-serve basis. Once Redmi Note is made available in India, Redmi 1s is expected to be phased out. The Redmi and Mi devices are now also available on eBay.

Following the Redmi Note release, it is expected that Xiaomi will also start selling its Mi 4 Smartphones.

With a 5.5-inch LED IPS screen, the Xioami Redmi Note has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels at 267 points-per-inch. For extra protection Xiaomi proffers a Gorilla glass. With a measured thickness of 9.45 mm the device weighs 199g.

Powered by a MTK MT6592 SoC, which integrates a 1.7GHz octa-core processor and a Mali 450 GPU, the Redmi Note comes with 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory. It also carries a preloaded version of 4.4 Android Kitkat with a layered miui 6 interface on the top and is expected to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update soon.

The device also features a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera. The dual SIM phablet supports 3G (WCDMA)/2G (GSM), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GPS + AGPS as connectivity options and is powered by a 3100 mAh battery.

The Redmi Note is priced at Rs. 8,999.
