"X-Men: Apocalypse" has made a superb collection at the Indian box office at the first weekend and it has slowed down the pace of the collection of old Hollywood release "Captain America: Civil War" (CACW) and "The Jungle Book" (TJB).

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is an American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character X-Men. It is the ninth instalment in the "X-Men" film series, which is a popular Hollywood film series in India. The previous instalment in the series fared well at the Indian box office and the latest film was expected to beat the records of earlier releases and become the biggest opener in the series in the country.

As predicted, "X-Men: Apocalypse" started with a bang and collected Rs. 16.21 crore at the Indian box office at the first weekend. Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#XMenApocalypse fares well... Growth in biz: Sat 25.28%, Sun 7.08%... Fri 4.51 cr, Sat 5.65 cr, Sun 6.05 cr. Total: ₹ 16.21 cr. India biz."

The 2013 movie "X Men: The Wolverine" had collected Rs 10.5 cr nett at the Indian box office over the first weekend. Taran Adarsh had tweeted on 29 Jul 2013, "#TheWolverine drew better figures than new Hindi releases at the domestic BO. Collected Rs 10.5 cr nett in its opening weekend."

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" (2014), the next instalment in the film series, had shattered this record in just two days. Taran Adarsh tweeted on 25 May, 2014, "#XMen Days Of Future Past witnesses good growth on Sat. Thu previews Rs. 60 lacs, Fri Rs. 4.50 cr, Sat Rs. 5.40 cr. Total: ₹ 10.50 cr nett."

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" collected Rs. 6.10 crore at the Indian box office on Sunday, taking its opening weekend total to Rs. 16.60 crore. "X-Men: Deadpool," which was released in theatres in India in February 2016, failed to beat this record. Taran Adarsh had tweeted on Feb. 14, "#Deadpool has a STRONG weekend. Fri 4.10 cr, Sat 4.90 cr, Sun 5.25 cr. Total: ₹ 14.25 cr. India biz."

However, "X-Men: Apocalypse" was expected to shatter the record of "X-Men: Days of Future Past," but it missed that with a small margin. It has become the second highest grosser movie in the X-Men film series.

In its third weekend, "Captain America: Civil War" has collected Rs. 1.70 crore at the Indian box office, taking its 17-day Indian total collection to Rs. 58.83 crore nett. "The Jungle Book" does not seem to be stopping at the ticket counters.
