"X-Men: Apocalypse" actress Alexandra Shipp, who plays the young Storm in the movie, recently spoke about the challenges she faced about taking on the character that Halle Berry made famous in the earlier X-Men films.
Berry played the adult Ororo Munroe aka Storm in "X-Men," "X2: X-Men United" and "X-Men: The Last Stand," and reprised the role again for "X-Men: Days of Future Past." Following her footsteps, Shipp revealed that initially she couldn't get over simply mimicking Berry's performance.
"I spent the first month trying to imitate Halle Berry, for a minute," Shipp told Yahoo Movies. "Because I was like, 'how am I going to live up to Halle Berry?' I was like, 'All right, hold on. People aren't going to want to see you be Halle Berry. Otherwise they're going to want Halle, you know? You got to find your own Storm. You got to find who you think Storm is in these moments and in this time in her life."
Shipp went on to add that she tried reaching Berry for tips on how best to play this character but the Oscar-winning actress never got back to her.
"You know, Halle's got her show and her family and stuff. So I understand, she's got her thing going on. Also, I think that my email might have scared her because it was a lot of word vomit. Like, 'Oh, my God, I love you, you're so amazing. What does your hair smell like? What perfume do you wear? If you had a favorite deodorant scent, what would it be?'"
"X-Men: Apocalypse" is currently playing in theatres.
