The World Environment Day 2015 is being observed in a big way in India this year, with Prime Minister Modi himself taking the lead by deciding to start a tree plantation drive from his official residence on Friday, 5 June. 

There will be several other high-profile events as well as local initiatives across cities in the country. 

  • PM Modi sent a message to the nation on World Environment Day, urging citizens to preserve Nature for future generations.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a sapling at his residence on 7 Race Course Road.
  • Cricketer Virat Kohli planted a sapling at Paryavaran Bhawan along with Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar.
  • Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar took to riding an eco-friendly moped on World Environment day.
  • Students are taking up the cause of planting more trees. These students in Chennai set an example.
