Uruguay striker Luis Suarez is confident of recovering from his knee injury and be fit for the World Cup, as he has reportedly sent text messages to his Liverpool teammates, saying he would be fit to face England on 19 June.

Though many feared the 27-year-old would miss out on the World Cup, following a serious knee injury suffered during training earlier this month, the Uruguay FA later stated they are positive about the former Ajax man's chances.

And, according to ESPN UK, Suarez has texted Liverpool's English players that he is ready to face them, when Uruguay meet the Three Lions in Sao Paulo on 19 June.

Suarez's international teammates also stressed that the striker is optimistic about his World Cup chances.

"When I heard [about the injury] I said 'No, not now, please'. The truth is that I felt ill, it is something that nobody expected... He is our figurehead, our star. Now what remains is for us to support him. I've talked to him and he is very optimistic," said defender Diego Godin.

Suarez's Uruguay strike partner Edinson Cavani is also hopeful that the player, who netted 31 goals from 32 games in the Premier League last season, will join the squad very soon.

"We're all a bit discouraged by what happened. Injuries are always ugly and more so at this time. We have to leave him alone now so he can have a good recovery with no anxiety on him. We wish he can join us as soon as possible," the Paris Saint-Germain striker told El Pais.

Meanwhile, Liverpool and England midfielder Jordan Henderson, who also had an excellent season for the Reds, feels Suarez can bounce back from the setback and feature in Brazil.

"Everybody was obviously disappointed for Luis, people that know him - maybe not us - because he is a big player for Uruguay. I gave him a text to see if he is doing all right and wished him good luck with whatever he has got to have done," Henderson pointed out.

"But knowing the type of person he is, he is a fighter and I am sure come maybe the first game or the second game in the World Cup, he will be ready and raring to go," the 23-year-old added.
