The entire world observed Cancer Day on Wednesday, 4 February with the tagline "Not Beyond Us" as a proactive step to fight the deadly disease that is prominent these days.

Though fighting cancer is a difficult task, there are quite a few who believed that being diagnosed with cancer was not the end of the world and have survived it with their courage.

Many celebs, including cricketer Yuvraj Singh, director Anurag Basu, actors Manisha Koirala, Lisa Ray, Namrata Singh Gujral, Mamta Mohandas, Gautami, Barbara Mori, Innocent and Jishnu Raghavan have fought the deadly condition.

Yuvraj Singh

The cricketer was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in his left lung in 2011. After completing the third and final cycle of chemotherapy in Boston and Indianapolis, he returned to India in 2012. He also made his comeback in a Twenty20 match the same year and published his book "The Test of My Life".

Manisha Koirala

The "Dil Se..." actress was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012 and was treated abroad. She had earlier mentioned that even though she recovered from the disease, she always fears that it will recur but believes in being positive in life. Currently, she is involved in social work and has been an inspiration to many cancer patients.

Mamta Mohandas

South Indian actress and singer Mamta was attacked by the deadly disease twice. She was initially diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, in which cancer originates from white blood cells in 2010. After she survived it, she got married to her childhood friend and businessman. After the couple filed for a divorce in 2012, her condition became worse. However, she survived and was last seen in the Malayalam film "Varsham" (2014).

Lisa Ray

The "Kasoor" actress was diagnosed with multiple Myeloma in 2009 and was declared cancer-free in 2010 after stem cell transplant treatment.

Anurag Basu

The "Jagga Jasoos" director was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic Leukemia in 2004. Even though doctors said that he can survive only for another three months, he bravely fought against the disease undergoing three years of treatment.

Gautami

South India's yesteryear actress Gautami was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 35. However, she conquered cancer with the help of Kamal Haasan and her friends. She has become an example to many breast cancer patients and had said that with patience and determination one can overcome this deadly disease.

Innocent

Malayalam actor and comedian Innocent, who is now the MP of Chalakudy, is a cancer survivor. He was diagnosed with throat cancer in its early stages.

Jishnu Raghavan

Not many are aware that Jishnu, who made his acting debut with Malayalam film "Nammal", was a cancer patient. The actor revealed that he is a cancer survivor after a disturbing photo of him undergoing treatment went viral.

"By God's grace and your prayers, the surgery I had to go through was successful. I am back home now and recovering. The cancerous tumor was completely removed. For complete recovery it will take another six months, I guess. Thanks a lot for your prayers and support," the actor tweeted.

Namrata Singh Gujral

The actress was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. After surviving the disease, she acted in a cancer document drama titled "1 a Minute" -- as part of awareness to the public -- which was released in more than 600 theaters.
