Manipur, Oct 26 (ANI): These women folk gather at the residence of Akhom Rasho Singh at Kongha Nangdeibam Leikai in Imphal East to get training in making products out of water reed, locally known as Kouna, an easily available aquatic weed. Rasho set up "Akhom Kouna Crafts" centre in 2003 and conducts training programmes across the state. It helps many unemployed people to become self-reliant. Water Reed products like bags, cushions, mats, boxes, baskets and several other decorative items have become a special attraction in Manipur and rest of the country. "Akhom Kouna Crafts" also export some products to the United States. The women workers are happy to be able to earn a decent living and are keen to impart training to other unemployed youth.
