Mani Ratnam's "Ok Kanmani" will be released in just two days and predictions on its performance at the box office have already begun. There are lofty expectations that the latest film would beat big movies of recent times such as Ajith's "Yennai Arindhaal" and Vijay's "Kaththi".

Mani Ratnam's latest movie "Ok Kanmani" will easily get a good opening, but it cannot beat "Yennai Arindhaal", "Kaththi", Vikram's "I" and Rajinikanth's "Lingaa" for many reasons.

Below, we are listing why the Dulqueer Salmaan-Nithya Menon starrer cannot surpass the collections of afore-mentioned films:

Why Mani Ratnam's 'Ok Kanmani' Might not Beat Ajith's 'Yennai Arindhaal', Vijay's 'Kaththi' at Box Office?

Less Screens
"Ok Kanmani" is not having a bigger release, as the movie will be released in limited number of screens. While Ajith's "Yennai Arindhaal" and Vijay's "Kaththi" were released in above 400 screens in Tamil Nadu, the Mani Ratnam movie will be released in just 250+ screens. It is a clear disadvantage for the movie to break the first weekend record of big films.

A-list Star Factor
Mani Ratnam may be a star director but that is not a replacement for the popularity of A-list stars. Irrespective of the hype, actors such as Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith and Vijay pull movie buffs to theatres in large numbers. The star power of budding stars such as Dulqueer Salmaan and Nithya Menen is no match to that of the superstars.

Mani Ratnam's Flop Series
The series of flop movies by Mani Ratnam has not helped. Had he been the same director of the 1990s and 2000s, the situation would have been completely different. But today, his audience has been restricted to those who watch at multiplexes. Hence, we cannot expect record-breaking collection for "Ok Kanmani" in the first weekend. This does not mean that "Ok Kanmani" is not riding on positive pre-talk or would not get a good opening.

Lack of Mass Elements
"Ok Kanmani" is not a mass movie, a genre liked by youngsters and PVR audience. A movie with regular masala elements will always draw more crowds than one meant for a discerning audience.

However, "Ok Kanmani" is having a fantastic pre-talk and the success of audio launch has made audience wait for its release with bated breath.
