Just a couple of weeks shy of Whitney Houston's third death anniversary, her only child Kristina Brown was found lying unconscious in a bathtub, on Saturday, by her husband Nick Gordon and a friend.
She was immediately rushed to North Fulton Hospital in Roswell, GA.
Unconfirmed reports state that Brown has very little brain activity and chances of her survival are bleak. A family source told the media that the 21-year-old was on respirator and hasn't regained consciousness since she was found in the unresponsive state on Saturday.
Ironically, Houston was found dead in a similar condition, in a bathtub in a Los Angeles hotel just a day before the Grammy Awards in February 2012. A post-mortem examination concluded that the 48-year-old had died of accidental drowning due to the effects of drugs and heart disease.
Brown's father, Bobby Brown, is inconsolable and is at his daughter's bedside. "This is his worst nightmare," the family source told People. "Losing Whitney [Houston] was hard, but this is a million times worse, and to lose her in the same way would devastate him."
On the possibility of Brown making a complete recovery, the family source said doctors believe it is technically possible, but it would be a miracle if it happens. MediaTakeOut quoted a nurse at the hospital as saying that Brown "lost oxygen to her brain for too long – she's not going to be able to recover."
Bobby has since released a statement requesting privacy as the family continues to pray for his daughter's recovery. "Privacy is requested in this matter," he said in a statement cited by the media. "Please allow for my family to deal with this matter and give my daughter the love and support she needs at this time."
Brown was last spotted in public almost two weeks ago when she and her husband were seen leaving a CVS drugstore. As per Radar Online, Brown tried to hide from paparazzi using a leopard-print blanket, as they kept trying to get her response on the Lifetime movie about her mother that aired a few days ago.
Brown declined to comment on the biopic and even refused to say if she had watched it.
Reportedly, the couple wasn't staying together at the time of the incident. "[He] got a call from Bobbi Kris and he felt that she was trying to hurt herself. So he [and a friend] rushed home, and they found her," a source told MediaTakeOut.
