Westworld
Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Robert Ford in a still from Westworld.HBO

Season 1 of Westworld wrapped up on Sunday with a 90-minute-long episode that proved correct a number of fan theories that had been doing the rounds since the season premiered. Ford's creations turned violent as they struggled with memories of their past, and it ultimately ended in Ford's death.

Yes, Anthony Hopkins' Ford is dead, and like his partner Arnold, this scientist was also killed off by his creations. One of the biggest revelations of the night was that Ford was working on his partner Arnold's mission to free the hosts, and he did so by elevating their suffering. Arnold was the one who came up with the Wyatt story so as to prevent the park from being opened, and to enable this he made Dolores kill off the other hosts as well as him. Ford did the same thing in the finale.

The episode also proved right yet another fan theory – William is the Man in Black. William killed off Logan to gain a controlling power over Dolores and he has been returning to the park all these years with the sole objective of making the hosts attain self realisation. It looks like Arnold, Ford and William were all working towards the same goal.

While the first season of Westworld was compelling television, it remains to be seen if the future instalments would be as thrilling as the first one. As of now, there is no word on when Season 2 of Westworld will air, but it is sure to be a long wait. The theme for Season 2 is also being kept under wraps, but plot rumours indicate that we'll be seeing more of the other worlds, such as the Samurai World that was shown in the finale.

Westworld airs Sundays on HBO and Tuesdays on Star World Premiere HD.
