Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee was sworn in as the chief minister of West Bengal on Friday for a second consecutive term. Forty one other MLAs were sworn in along with her as cabinet ministers at the oath-taking ceremony, which was held at Red Road in Kolkata.

The cabinet has 17 new faces, according to the Hindu.

According to Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), 28 ministers were selected for the cabinet rank; five were ministers of state (independent charge) and eight ministers of state.

Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee, veteran TMC leader Sovandeb Chattopadhyay and Marxist-turned TMC lawmaker Abdur Rezzak Mollah were given cabinet berths, while former Indian cricketer Laxmi Ratan Shukla and Bengali singer Indranil Sen were given ministers of state portfolios.

The cabinet includes three women ministers, seven ministers belonging to the Muslim community, and several representatives of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes, IANS reported.

Banerjee reportedly took oath in Bengali in the name of 'Ishwar and Allah'. All other ministers also took their oath in Bengali, except Ghulam Rabbani who preferred Hindi.
