North Waziristan, June 02: Failure of peace talks early this year between the Pakistan Government and the Taliban has resulted in army action in North Waziristan. In one of the deadliest air strikes, Pakistan armed forces claims to have killed some 80 hardcore militants in a mountainous region bordering Afghanistan, known as a stronghold of Taliban and al Qaeda-links militants. Army said the strikes were aimed at those involved in recent attacks against the Pakistani armed forces. However, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, Imran Khan, expressed his "serious concerns" over military strikes in tribal areas and termed it a clear beginning of a full-fledged military operation in the region.
