A Grand Slam women's doubles title has eluded Sania Mirza for a number of years, but Wimbledon 2015 gives her a glorious chance to get that one crown missing in her trophy cabinet as she goes into the major as the number one seed alongside Martina Hingis.
The Sania and Hingis pairing start their Wimbledon campaign on Wednesday with a match against Zarina Diyas and Saisai Zheng of Kazakhstan and China respectively. Sania-Martina pair is expected to cruise through without any trouble, but they are a unit who will not take it easy against any opponent.
After suffering a shock exit from the quarterfinals of the French Open 2015, Sania and Hingis will be eager to go all the way this time and clinch their first Grand Slam title together. They were favourites for the French Open, and Wimbledon 2015 is no different as they are the top seeds in the women's doubles competition.
Hingis seems to be enjoying her partnership alongside Sania , and the former world number one in singles feels they have to be ready for the challenge, especially on the grass courts.
"If I didn't have a chance to win the tournament I wouldn't be out here," AFP quoted Hingis as saying.
"That's the goal. Winning matches the way I've played with Sania the last four or five months, it's been incredible. I'm enjoying this journey," said Hingis.
"We definitely are one of the favourite teams to win but still anyone can bite you, come out and have a good day; especially on grass, you have to be ready."
After deciding to play women's doubles together, Sania and Hingis have been dominant in the circuit. The chemistry shown by the duo during matches reflects in their success.
They have struck an instant bond and won a number of WTA titles, including Indian Wells and the Miami Open. But, it is the Wimbledon title, which will they will be aiming this time around.
Following a semifinal loss in WTA Aegon International last week, Sania and Hingis are aware about the tough competition that lies ahead, as their opponents will have a proper go at the top seeds.
