Shuai Peng of China will lock horns with 17-year-old sensation Belinda Bencic in the women's singles quarterfinals at the Flushing Meadows.

Bencic has made many headlines with her outstanding performances at the 2014 US Open. She had also won two junior Grand Slams in 2013. She is currently ranked 58 but is now set to reach the top 35 after the year's last Grand Slam.

Bencic has become the youngest US Open quarterfinalist since 1997. The young sensation defeated ninth seed Jelena Jankovic in straight sets 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 in the fourth round to set up the clash with the fellow newcomer from China. Bencic had also kicked out Angelique Kerber 6-1, 7-5 in the third round to reach this feat.

"I tried to hold the rallies, not just stupidly risk all the time. But then I needed to take my chances and go forward to create some pressure on her. I think that's when she was missing because otherwise when I would be too passive she wouldn't miss and she would push me," Bencic said.

"It was similar like against Kerber. I turned that set also completely. Here I also had nothing to lose. I was also ready to fight in the second and maybe third set, but I just fought till the last point. In the tiebreak I played really well."

The Swiss star is coached by Martina Hingis' mother, Melanie Molitor.

Meanwhile, Peng is also enjoying her moment. She has reached the last 16 for the first time in a Grand Slam singles event. She defeated Radwanska, Roberta Vinci and Lucie Safarova to reach the quarterfinals.

The 28-year-old is currently showing tremendous skills. Top players have been victim of her solid, flat hitting. She has not even dropped any set till now.

Bencic will now play Peng for a spot in the semifinals this year. However, they have not met before in their professional career. It is difficult to predict the outcome of the match, owing to their recent successes.

Schedule of Play: quarterfinal round
