Bengaluru Bulls will go up against Patna Pirates in the third-place play-off match in the Pro Kabaddi League at the National Sports Club of India in Mumbai on Sunday.

In reality, neither team would have wanted to be here, but losses in the semi-finals left them in this position. Bengaluru Bulls lost against U Mumba whereas Patna Pirates were trumped by Jaipur Pink Panthers in the semi-finals.

While both Patna Pirates and Bengaluru Bulls have no chance of winning the Pro Kabaddi League, they would like to finish on a winning note. Going into the game neither side can claim to be the favourite, although the Bulls might advance that they put more of a fight in the semi-final than the Pirates did.

The Pirates in their last four clashes against the Pink Panthers were overwhelmed 38 to 18, the Bulls on the other hand could not prevail in a tight contest against U Mumba as they lost 27 to 23.

The Pirates had started the semi-final well as they took a 4-1 lead against the Panthers in the opening minutes of the encounter. That was, however, the extent of their dominance and as for the rest of the match, Panthers reigned supreme.

Doubtless the boys from Patna would have been disappointed with this loss, furthermore the fact that they could be dominated like this would have also hurt them. Interestingly in an earlier match in the league stage, the Pirates had hammered the Panthers 52 to 30. In the semi-final, however, the Pirates were the ones who were dealt with severely by the Panthers.

The Bengaluru Bulls went into the semis on the back of two consecutive wins. These two wins enabled them to qualify for the semi-finals. They put up quite a fight against U Mumba in the semi-final, but in the end they came unstuck. Conceding an early lead hindered the Bulls against U Mumba as they had to play catch-up for most of the match and lost in the end.

In this game both Patna Pirates and Bengaluru Bulls have the opportunity to treat the crowd to some enthralling kabaddi. Both sides have exciting players such as Ajay Thakur and Rakesh Kumar of Bengaluru Bulls and Patna Pirates respectively. These two would be looking to go out on a high.

Both the sides will be clashing for the third time. In the league stage, they had both won a game apiece against each other. Both those games were tight matches with either team sneaking home by two points.

In this third-place play-off match Bengaluru Bulls and Patna Pirates can throw caution to the wind, an offense-dominated match could be the result — either way spectators would be in for a good time.
