Ryots spill milk in Maharashtra

Grabbing eyeballs on the distressing trend of falling prices of the agricultural produce and other issues, farmers across Maharashtra took to the streets and spilt milk on the roads. This was part of their protest against the non-redressal of their issues by the state government.

After the talks with Chief Minister Devendra Fadvanis over farm loan waivers failed, representatives of the Kisan Kranti Morcha — a state-level committee of farmer outfits — on Tuesday night refused to postpone their agitation. Reports say that the farmers had demanded loan waiver for which the state government had sought more time to look into the problem in order to get to a decision.

Nearly two tankers full of milk was spilt on the road in Shirdi on Thursday to mark the indefinite strike. In the aftermath of the ongoing agitation, major cities like Mumbai and Pune will lack in supply of vegetables and fruits. Further, reports claim that Nashik district will not send agricultural produce to the neighbouring state of Gujarat.

"The supply of vegetables and fruits in the market today is not sufficient. The buyers are going to suffer including us because we are the daily earner. There were chances that this will continue for some days as the farmers are demanding to waive the loan," a vegetable seller named Santosh told ANI.

Adding to the fury was BJP spokesperson Madhav Bhandari's comment that the state government would remain unnerved even if the farmers went on a strike.

Drawing inspiration from Yogi Adityanath's move in Uttar Pradesh on a similar issue, a vegetable seller told ANI, "As the stock and supply of vegetables and fruits are less, this will automatically lead to a hike in the prices based on demand. Our state government should also waive the farmers' loans like Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanth did in the state."
