The race for the La Liga title has got the closest as ever this season and nobody can predict who will be going home with the trophy. Defending champions Barcelona have yet another chance, however, to save their season if they record a win against Real Betis on Saturday.
Barca are still leaders of the Spanish league despite being on the same points as Atletico Madrid, owing to a greater goal difference. They also lead El Clasico rivals Real Madrid by just a point. Any slip up of points at this juncture can turn out to be really devastating for any of the three teams, and that is exactly what makes the Spanish league action all the more exciting.
The damage was done to Barca's chances of defending the La Liga title as they lost three consecutive domestic matches in the closing stages of the league. "We never planned for this to happen, but sport can be like this," said Barca coach Luis Enrique to Sport.
"I wouldn't call it a crisis, I don't know what I'd call it, but if we analyse the games, they were three games in which we lacked our normal fluidity and we didn't have any luck. Nothing else."
Real Betis are currently 13th in the La Liga this season and they come into the game at the Estadio Benito Villamarin at the back of a defeat against Sevilla. Getting past Barcelona will not be easy, but Betis will be willing to capitalise on their chances in front of their home fans.
"We will find our best form and will want to win, yes. With all respect for Barcelona, I do not care who will win the league this time," said Betis manager Juan Merino to Cadena Ser.
