Tottenham Hotspur will lock horns with Italian giants AC Milan in the third place playoff game of the Audi Cup 2015 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, and the English side will try their best to achieve a favourable result, with an eye on their Premier League campaign.

The Spurs were defeated by Real Madrid on Tuesday night in the previous game of the pre-season tournament and Mauricio Pochettino's side will try to avenge the defeat.

Goals from James Rodriguez and former Spurs star Gareth Bale helped Real register the 2-0 win, and the Spanish heavyweights go ahead to meet hosts Bayern Munich in the tournament, which will also be held on 5 August.

The loss may come as a hurdle for Spurs in their preparation for the Premier League, but the manager is positive.

"We played well and when we assess the full 90 minutes there are plenty of positives for us, a great experience to compete against these world-class players," Pochettino said after the game on Tuesday.

"We need to be more consistent and in the last 20 metres we need to score, we need to be more aggressive, but we are in a good way. You have to understand that in front of us is Real Madrid and we're a little frustrated by the result, but there are a lot of positives."

Youngster Dele Alli made his first appearance with the senior team at Tottenham and the midfielder's performance on the day, which included an impressive nutmeg, was praised by all.

"It was a phenomenal feeling for me to start," the 19-year-old Englishman said.

"We need to focus on the positives. Tomorrow will be another chance for us to build on the positives."

Meanwhile, AC Milan also couldn't get on the scoresheet on 4 August as they lost out to Bayern. Pep Guardiola's side rode past the Italian outfit with a 3-0 victory that included goals from Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze.

The Milan attacking trio, Keisuke Honda, Luiz Adriano and Carlos Bacca, tried its best to get in the scoresheet, but the hosts were just too resilient in the defence.

It got worse for Milan as Cristian Zapata and M'Baye Niang were both substituted with injuries during the game.

For Tottenham, it remains to be seen whether Hugo Lloris will start in the game on Wednesday. Michel Vorm played full 90 minutes for Spurs the previous day.
