Volkswagen India is apparently set to launch its most powerful Polo variant in the country by March next year.

The fourth generation of the powerful version of the Polo -- the GTI -- comes with a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing maximum power output of 189bhp and maximum torque of 320Nm, mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission. The GTI will run from 0-100 kmph in 6.7 seconds before reaching the top speed of 236kmph.

The performance of the car enhances with options such as the Sport Select suspension, which when electronically adjusted, dampers the suspension, and the Sport Performance Kit -sportier tuning activated at the push of a button. The Polo GTI is equipped with ESC, the electronic stability control system, as a standard option.

To differentiate the GTI from the other Polo variants, Volkswagen added sportier bumpers, radiator grille and headlights with classic red GTI strip, unique side sill, rear spoiler, tail light clusters in dark red, black grained diffuser and the chrome dual exhaust tailpipes. The car runs on 17-inch alloy wheels through which red brake callipers are visible. The LED headlights will be optional while sports steering wheel, instrument cluster and sports seats will add sportiness inside the cabin.

When launched, the Polo GTI will lock horns with the Fiat Punto Abarth that develops 145bhp from a 14.-litre T-JET engine. The Polo GTI will be sold as CBU unit in India and the estimated price hovers around Rs 20 lakh, reports Rushlane.
