Volkswagen India has called for a press conference on 2 February ahead of the Auto Expo 2016. Many reports suggest the VW compact sedan already confirmed for India will be unveiled at the event while its public debut will happen at the exposition.

The sub-four-metre compact sedan has been linked to production names Ameo and Bora. VW has already started its production at the beginning of 2016, according to the previous information from the company. It has invested Rs 720 crore in the development of this new model for India. The investment is being used for development, setting up of new equipment and increasing production of the new compact sedan. This is a part of the Rs 1,500-crore investments announced by Volkswagen India at the beginning of 2014.

The car, caught testing under camouflage in Pune recently, indicates a face similar to the Vento sedan. The rear of the car features a small boot and tail-lamps similar to Polo hatchback. Though its specifications have not been released yet, it is safe to assume VW will continue with the current Polo engines, which include the 1.2-litre MPI and TSI petrol engines and the 1.5-diesel unit.

When launched, the compact sedan will be pitted against the likes of Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest, Hyundai Xcent, and Ford Aspire. The compact sedan can be expected to have a price in the range of Rs 5-8 lakh when launched.
