Volkswagen's first tailor-made vehicle for India, the Ameo compact sedan, was launched on June 5 with petrol engine only. Latest reports suggest the Ameo, with upgraded 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine, is set to enter the market in August.

Apart from the Ameo, the reworked 1.5-litre diesel engine will also be available in the Polo and the Vento from August, reports Cardekho. While the current 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine that powers the models like the Polo, Vento and Skoda Rapid churns out 103bhp of power and 230Nm of torque, the updated engine is expected to make 108bhp of power. The engine new diesel power plant in the Ameo will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and seven-speed DSG transmission.

Priced at Rs. 5.24 lakh, Rs. 5.99 lakh and Rs. 7.05 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi, for Trendline, Comfortline and Highline variants, the Ameo is currently powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI petrol engine that develops 74bhp of power and 110Nm of peak torque. The compact sedan offers some of the best in-class features such as cruise control, infotainment system with CD/MP3/USB/AUX-in/SD card and Bluetooth connectivity, reverse-parking camera, reverse-parking sensors and touchscreen MirrorLink system in the Ameo.

Volkswagen is also in the process of recalling 1.9 lakh cars in India from July 2016 to fix the emission software. The recalling process is expected to last for 10 months.
