A 43-year-old woman from Rani Khet not only pursued academics but also earned a college degree after a gap of 23 years.

Prema Bajetha, who lives in Baghwali Pokher village of Rani Khet, completed her studies as a private candidate from Rohilkhand University in Uttar Pradesh.

"It was my inner voice, and cooperation which I received from my husband and in-laws which helped me complete my studies," Bajetha told NDTV.

The mother-of-two further said: "I always wanted to complete my education and was extremely keen, however after my marriage, it was my responsibility to keep my husband happy by all means, and since then I have been engaged in domestic affairs."

Prema neither received support from any women's organisation nor from the government, which has been actively campaigning for 'women's empowerment'.

Prema has proved that despite being a woman from a small village, one does not need propaganda to garner attention to fulfil their dreams.

Prema, who is a teacher at a private school, now plans to pursue a master's degree.
