After the success of her latest film "The Dirty Picture" (2011), Vidya Balan is all set to do an item number in a forthcoming film to be produced by Vidhu Chopra. The film is titled "Ferrari Ki Sawari".

According to media sources, Vidya Balan who has never done an item number before, accepted the offer since Chopra was instrumental in providing her with her first break - "Parineeta" (2005) - in the industry.

The film - "Ferrari Ki Sawari" - is to be directed by Rajesh Mapuskar and is set to be released on April 27.

Vidya Balan's seeming capitulation highlights a trend of leading actresses turning to item numbers. Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone are perfect examples of leading actresses who are doing well in item songs too, with songs like "Aaya Re Aaya Bodyguard" in "Bodyguard"(2011) and "Love Mera Hit Hit" in "Billu" (2009). Katrina Kaif's latest item song "Chikni Chameli" from Karan Malhotra's to-be-released "Agneepath" is already a chartbuster.
