Video Liverpool vs Everton: Match Highlights: Jagielka Rescues a Point with Stunning Strike in Merseyside Derby

Phil Jagielka scored a goal that will be watched again and again, especially by the Everton fans, on video, with the club skipper giving his team a last-gasp draw against Liverpool in their Merseyside Derby.

The English Premier League seemed to be heading Liverpool's way after Gerrard struck for the home side, like only he can, with the sweetest of freekicks, only for Jagielka to answer in kind, and then some.

"I'd passed one a few minutes before outside their box, so I thought if it comes round again I'm just going to hit it," goal-hero Jagielka told BT Sport after the game. "So, I swung at that one."

It was not the victory that Everton craved after such a long spell at Anfield, but that goal, and what a goal it was, will give Roberto Martinez's men confidence heading into the next few games of the Premier League, after a rather slow start to their campaign this season.

"Hopefully next time we come to Anfield we can go one better but the point is not the end of the world," Jagielka added.

"It has been a frustrating season so far, to go 1-0 down and keep knocking at the door showed tremendous character. We need to keep showing character.

"The lads need to keep playing the same way, keep having the courage to do the right things and hopefully this will be a kick-start to the season for us."

Everton looked dead and buried after Gerrard swung in a beautiful freekick past Howard, with the team in blue just seeming lost going forward as Romelu Lukaku and Steven Naismith had off days.

However, much to the team's credit, and like Jagielka himself mentioned, Everton kept going despite being far from their best, and were rewarded with the most dramatic of goals.

For Liverpool, it is back to the drawing board again, after, they looked like escaping with much-needed three points. The home side were far from their best again, and still lack that goalscoring prowess up front with Daniel Sturridge out injured.

Mario Balotelli huffed and puffed and dived on quite a few occasions, but just could not find the necessary goal, which would have eased Liverpool's problems.

Both teams will know the draw does not do them much good, with Liverpool currently tenth on seven points, while Everton are a point and two places behind.
