Italian manufacturer Piaggio is looking to expand its product portfolio in India. After launching the new 946 Emporio Armani and the 70th Anniversary Edition in India, the company is now said to be getting ready for the launch of the its powerful scooter, the Vespa GTS 300.

Although the India launch of Vespa GTS 300 has been rumoured for quite some time now, the company has never spoken about it. However, emerging reports now suggest that the launch of the GTS 300 is likely to happen in 2017. The GTS 300 is believed to have completed its homologation process in the country and is expected to be brought to India as CBU (completely built unit), as it would not be a volume-seller.

To be sold through Motoplex dealerships, the GTS 300 is powered by a 278cc, single-cylinder engine developing 21bhp and 22.3Nm of torque. It features LED day running lights, handlebar covering hake friezes grill, new analog and digital instrument panel and USB port. The GTS 300 also has traction control and a two-channel ABS system in its list of features. The Vespa GTS 300 is likely to be priced at around Rs 4 lakh.

Currently, Vespa India's most expensive scooter is the newly launched 946 Emporio Armani. The new 946 Emporio Armani is also the second most expensive scooter sold in the country, with a whopping price of Rs 12.04 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). The Vespa 946 Emporio Armani, the limited edition variant of the 946, was launched to mark the 40th anniversary of the foundation of Giorgio Armani as well as the 130th birthday of the Piaggio Group.
