Ajith starrer "Vedalam" has created history at the Malaysian box office. It has now become the highest-grossing film of Thala in this international centre.

The Diwali release is also heading towards beating the record of "Kaththi". Vijay's film had done a business of Rs 3.80 crore in its lifetime and "Vedalam" only requires eight more lakh to surpass the collection. However, it is now being shown only on one screen and there are doubts whether it can really beat the collection of Ilayathalapathy's flick or not.

Both "Vedalam" and "Kaththi" released for Diwali festival and capitalised on the big weekend. While Vijay's film has made record-breaking Rs 3.30 crore in first weekend from 32 screens, Ajith's film minted Rs 2.97 crore from 40 screens.

Malaysia has always been a good market for Tamil movies. In fact, this is a centre where Kollywood performs better than Bollywood.

Coming to Ajith's films in Malaysia, his "Yennai Arindhaal, which was released in February 2015, could only make Rs 1.75 crore. As it was an urban-centric movie, the film did not enjoy good turnout of audience.

Moreover, it was not released during the festive season. These factors ended up making the film just an average grosser in Malaysia. However, "Vedalam" has not set a new benchmark for itself and it is only one of the biggest hits in this centre after Rajinikanth's "Endhiran", "Lingaa" and Vikram's "I".

Meanwhile, "Vedalam" has been heavily affected by Chennai floods. The movie was performing in the Capital city of Tamil Nadu before rain played spoilsport. Nonetheless, as the situation is returning to normal, the movie is being screened in the city once again.

Written and directed by Siruthai Siva, it features Shruthi Haasan in the female lead role and Lakshmi Menon, Kabir Duhan Singh, Rahul Dev and others in the supporting cast. "Vedalam" has earned over Rs 110 crore worldwide.
