Ajith's "Vedalam" has created history in Chennai! Thala's latest movie has become the biggest hit of his career in the Capital city of Tamil Nadu.

"Vedalam" has earned Rs 6.34 crore in Chennai by the end of its third weekend, thereby beating Ajith's previous best of Rs 6.14 crore set by "Veeram". His "Yennai Arindhaal" had raked in a little over Rs 6 crore and this remains his third highest grossing film in the Capital city of Tamil Nadu.

The dream run of the latest film has not stopped yet as the movie is still being played in several screens in Chennai. Despite heavy rains for the past few weeks, "Vedalam" has turned out to be a crowd puller.

The traders are curiously looking forward to see how "Vedalam" will do at the box office in the coming days. The release of "Inji Iduppazhagi" has no impact on the Ajith's film as Anushka and Arya starrer has garnered mixed reviews.

But Sivakarthikeyan's forthcoming movie "Rajini Murugan", which will be released on 4 December, is expected to take a toll on "Vedalam" collections as there are positive vibes around the flick.

"Vedalam" is likely to beat the record of Dhanush's "Velaiyilla Pattathari" (Rs 6.66 crore) and Rajinikanth's "Lingaa" (Rs 6.78 crore). However, it is interesting to see whether it can surpass the lifetime collection of Ilayathalapathy Vijay's "Kaththi", SS Rajamouli's "Baahubali" and Shankar's "I", which are in the top three positions at the Chennai box office.

Meanwhile, "Vedalam" has slowed down at the overseas centres. So far, it has collected Rs 1.92 crore in the US, Rs 81.26 lakh in Australia and Rs 3.67 crore in Malaysia. The worldwide collection of the movie has crossed Rs 110-crore mark.

"Vedalam" is a family entertainer with mass elements. Directed by Siruthai Siva, it has Shruthi Haasan, Kabir Duhan Singh and Lakshi Menon in the key roles.
